Spanish Springs junior sprinter Jessica Ozoude was named the Nevada Gatorade Female Track and Field Athlete of the Year on Thursday.
Ozoude, who will be a senior in the fall, won the unofficial title of fastest girl in the state last month, claiming the 100, 200 and 400 meter DI state titles.
She took the 100m title in a time of 12.29 seconds, the 200m title in a time of 24.29 seconds and the 400m title in a personal best 55.35 seconds.
“Jessica Ozoude ran some fast times against no competition and won three state titles,” McQueen coach Ed Parise said in a release. “Her collection of times is elite.”
Ozoude is the first athlete from Northern Nevada to win the award since Reed’s Gabby Williams won it in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. Williams just won her second straight national title playing women’s basketball at UConn.
