Connor London scored the only goal of the match in the 45th minute on Wednesday night to give Spanish Springs a big early season 1-0 home win over North Valleys.
The victory not only extended the Cougars’ winning streak to six, it also solidified their position atop the High Desert League. Spanish Springs improved to 6-2-0, 6-2-0, four points clear of North Valleys 6-5-4, 4-2-2.
The Cougars will again put their winning streak on the line Saturday morning at Hug.
Raiders’ skid continues
Reed’s losing streak reached four games on Wednesday afternoon with a 3-1 loss at Reno.
With the defeat, the Raiders dropped to 1-6-2, 1-6-1 in 4A North play. The Huskies improved to 4-6-2, 3-3-1.
Cheech Chinchilla scored Reed’s lone goal.
The Raiders will try to get off the schneid on Saturday morning at McQueen. First touch is at 10:45 a.m.
Volleyball: Cougars handle Panthers in three
Spanish Springs dropped North Valleys in straight sets at home on Wednesday night, 25-10, 25-16, 25-20.
The Cougars improved to 21-4, 8-1 in the 4A North, one night after a big win over McQueen. The Panthers dropped to 2-11, 1-7.
Six different Cougars had multiple kills in the win. Jordyn Boswell and Emily Moore both had seven, Ireland Bennett had five, Alyssa Zuro and Gracie Fuller both had four.
Moore also served nine of the team’s 22 aces.
Mackenzie O’Connell finished with 24 assists to go along with six aces, three digs and three kills.
The Cougars will take a week off before returning to 4A North play next Thursday at home against Reno (9-4, 4-3).
