Before indulging in your day of eating, consider getting some exercise and giving back to the community in a full serving of healthy family fun.
Trot in the 18th annual Scheels 10k and your registration fees will go towards Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful and the City of Sparks Youth Scholarship Fund.
People can participate in the timed 10k run that winds through city streets and bike paths or an untimed casual walk around the Sparks Marina. Both events start and finish in the Scheels parking lot. The race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. ad every turkey trotter receives a commemorative long-sleeve shirt.
Trotters are also encouraged to dress up in turkey-themed garb- for instance last year a father and son dressed up as a turkey and carving plate/knife combo and chased each other around the route.
The registration fee is $40 on Nov. 22-23 or $60 on the day of the event (Nov. 24) and must be paid in cash. Feel free to sign up online at www.active.com or in person at Scheels or the City of Sparks Parks and Recreation Department. For the safety of others, please leave your pets at home and for additional information and past results, visit http://cityofsparks.us/visiting/special-events/scheels-turkey-trot.
