Spanish Springs handles Wooster
The Cougars improved to 6-1, 2-0 on Thursday afternoon with their sixth-straight win, a decisive 11-3 decision at Wooster (3-4, 0-2).
Despite the lopsided final score, Spanish Springs only outhit Wooster, 10-9. Marlin Brucato (2-for-3, double, three RBIs, run scored) was the only Coug with more than one hit.
His two-run double in the top of the fifth grew the lead to 8-3. He later scored to push the advantage to six.
Brucato also struck out three in the final two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win on the bump.
The Cougars go to Carson on Saturday.
Raiders unable to sweep Mustangs
Damonte Ranch scored at least run in all but one at bat on Thursday night, handing Reed a 10-6 road loss.
The Raiders sunk to 3-4, 1-1 after beating the Mustangs two days prior. Damonte Ranch improved to an identical 3-4, 1-1 record.
Reed scored four times in the top of the first, only for Damonte to answer with a four spot of its own in the bottom half. The Mustangs then scored five unanswered to grow the lead to 9-4 until the Raiders plated two in the top of the second.
Reed’s pitchers were charged with 16 hits and handed out six free passes.
Vinnie Fillipone (2-for-4, RBI) and Kameron Soubiea (2-for-4, run) were the only Raiders with multi-hit afternoons.
Reed hosts Bishop Manogue (4-4, 2-0) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
