Baseball: Nobbs walk-off slam slides Sparks past Lowry in 3A North opener
It took five games for the Railroaders to match last year’s win total.
Hunter Nobbs blasted a walk-off home run in Friday’s 3A North opener to give the Railroaders an 8-6 home victory over Lowry.
Sparks improved to 4-1, 1-0. Lowry dipped to 0-9, 0-4.
Nobbs finished 2-for-4 with the grand slam and six RBIs. Matt Longland (4-for-4, double, RBI, two runs) accounted for half of Sparks’ eight hits.
Longland also started on the bump and went six innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits. He fanned nine and walked six. He handed the ball to Joey Shugar in the seventh with a 5-3 deficit.
Shugar allowed one run on two hits, but picked up the win thanks to Nobb’s blast in the bottom half.
