Baseball: Slow start downs Raiders
In its first 4A North contest since dropping four of five during a spring break trip to Anaheim, Reed fell at home, 8-6, to Douglas on Tuesday afternoon.
The Raiders dropped to 6-11, 3-4 in the 4A North despite outhitting the Tigers (7-5, 4-3) by a tally of 8-4.
Two walks, two wild pitches, a hit by pitch, and an error helped Douglas score three times in the top of the first without a hit. The Tigers tacked on two more in the top of the third and the Raiders never got back into the game.
They did plate three in the bottom of the third on consecutive RBI hits from Jon Pinto (2-for-4, home run, double, two RBIs, two runs), Tanner Clabaugh (1-for-4, RBI. run) and Lincoln Turner (2-for-4, double, RBI, run), but drew no closer.
Pinto led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot to center, before the next three batters were retired in order.
Four different Reed pitchers walked 11 total hitters.
Reed will attempt to salvage a regular-season series split with Douglas on Thursday afternoon in Minden.
