Raiders sweep Grizzlies
The Raiders stretched their winning streak to 12 games on Monday with a convincing home doubleheader sweep of Galena.
Reed now sits at 17-2-1, 7-2 in the 4A North while Galena sunk to 3-8, 0-7.
The games were rescheduled from Saturday after the weekend’s rain and snow.
Reed goes to Damonte Ranch on Thursday afternoon.
Reed 10, Galena 0 (5 innings)
Julia Jensen threw four hitless/scoreless innings in Monday’s nightcap as the Raiders cruised 10-0 in five innings.
Jensen struck out nine and walked one batter before handing the ball to Aliya Lange, who struck out two and gave up one hit inv a scoreless frame.
Freshman Jilian Kygar (1-for-1, home run) and senior Jessica Sellers (2-for-2, home run, double) both went deep in the shutout victory. It was Kygar’s second home run of the day.
At the plate, Jensen went 2-for-2 with two doubles and scored twice.
Reed 7, Galena 0
As she would do in game two, Jensen dominated the Grizzlies in the circle in game one.
Jensen struck out eight and allowed just two hits over four innings then gave way to Lange. Lange struck out six in three flawless innings.
Kygar (2-for-3) blasted her first of two homers on the day and Ali Hernandez finished 2-for-3 with three runs driven in.

Three-run seventh lifts Spanish Springs over Damonte Ranch
Spanish Springs was one offensive out from having to take the field in the bottom of the seventh of a tie game at Damonte Ranch on Monday afternoon.
Senior catcher Josh Prizina had other ideas.
The Nevada commit kickstarted a three-run rally (all with two outs) by blasting the first pitch he saw for an RBI double that led to a 4-1 road victory.
Spanish Springs had lost three of its previous four and improved to 10-4, 6-3 in the 4A North. Damonte dipped to 7-10, 4-5.
Following Prizina’s go-ahead double, Dawson Martin put the Cougs up 3-1 with an RBI double on an 0-2 pitch and Tanner Smith ended the scoring with a third-straight two-out RBI knock, a single.
The two doubles from Prizina (2-for-4, RBI, two runs) and Martin (1-for-2, RBI, run) were the only extra base hits for either team.
Casey Miller allowed just one hit and did not allow a run over the final 1.2 innings in relief to pick up the win. He recorded all five outs via strikeout.
He came on in the bottom of the sixth in a tie game with one out and runners on first second. The UNLV commit ended the threat with two straight punch outs, both looking.
Miller relived Trevor French, who allowed just one run on three hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out five and walked one.
The Cougs tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth when Prizina led off with a single and eventually scored on a 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded.
Damonte’s Ryan Riggle took a no decision despite surrendering just one run on three hits over six innings.
The game was originally scheduled to be played Saturday, but was postponed 48 hours due to the weekend’s storm.
Spanish Springs and Damonte Ranch conclude their regular-season series on Tuesday afternoon at the Cougars’ yard.
Sparks drops a pair
The Sparks baseball game fell twice at home to Elko on Monday afternoon, 13-3 and 11-0.
The games were made up from Saturday’s doubleheader which was postponed due to weather.
Sparks now sits at 6-7, 3-6 in the 3A North after falling for the sixth time in seven contests. Elko improved to 13-4, 9-3.
The two teams conclude the series with a single game at Sparks on Tuesday at noon.
