Sparks PD warns of Craigslist scam
Sparks Police are investigating a fraud incident that occurred on an internet web site after meeting the victim on Friday.
The victim visited Craigslist.org and located a house for rent in Sparks. The victim communicated via email with the suspect for nearly a month. At the conclusion of the communications the victim wire transferred money to the suspect in order to rent the property. After wiring the money the victim did not receive keys to the house and the suspect would not return the money.
Sparks Police Officers spoke with the actual property owner and the owner confirmed that he has not placed an ad on the website.
The Sparks Police Department would like to remind the community to use caution when conducting online business. Internet scams regularly ask people to wire funds or buy/rent without viewing the property.
Suspect sought in attempted kidnapping
The Sparks Police Department were called to a home in the 2100 block of Jessie Avenue on May 5 after a woman called to report a man had just attempted to kidnap her two-year old daughter
The victim, her three-year-old sibling and her mother were in the backyard of their residence on Sunday about 6 p.m. that evening. The child’s mother stepped into the residence momentarily when she heard her daughter screaming in the yard seconds later. She exited the home to find a man holding her child by the front collar of her jacket with both hands. The child’s mother moved to her daughter, pulled on the child’s jacket trying to release her daughter and yelled at the suspect to let go. The suspect released his grip on the child and jumped the fence line of the property and into the neighbor’s yard without saying a word.
Officers arrived moments after the call came in and searched the area for the suspect without success.

He has distinct acne consisting of pimples at the brow line and moving up the forehead. His eyes were sunken and dark and he wore a dirty white t-shirt, blue jeans frayed at the cuff and white canvas shoes with a blue stripe.
If anyone recognizes the described suspect or has had contact with him, please contact the Sparks Police Department with that information immediately.
