Sparks PD warns of Craigslist scam
Sparks Police are investigating a fraud incident that occurred on an internet web site after meeting the victim on Friday.
The victim visited Craigslist.org and located a house for rent in Sparks. The victim communicated via email with the suspect for nearly a month. At the conclusion of the communications the victim wire transferred money to the suspect in order to rent the property. After wiring the money the victim did not receive keys to the house and the suspect would not return the money.
Sparks Police Officers spoke with the actual property owner and the owner confirmed that he has not placed an ad on the website.
The Sparks Police Department would like to remind the community to use caution when conducting online business. Internet scams regularly ask people to wire funds or buy/rent without viewing the property.
