From getting outdoors and trotting in the Scheels Dash for Dads, to throwing a ball around on the field of the Aces, or checking out a jet ski race at the Sparks Marina, there are many ways to spend time with dad on Father’s Day this Sunday in Northern Nevada.
Here are our top seven choices to spending time with dad in Sparks:
4th Annual Dash for Dads at Scheels: Start your Father’s Day off right with a dash through Sparks, hosted by Scheels. Register for the 5k and/or Kids Fun Run on Saturday at Scheels from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or on Sunday morning from 6 to 7:30 a.m. and then enjoy a jaunt with dad around the Sparks Marina. With proceeds benefitting local cancer patients, registration for Dash for Dads is available online at www.canevada.com.
Play Catch with Dad at Greater Nevada Field: Before the Reno Aces square off against the Las Vegas 51s at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, families are invited to come out and play catch with their pops on the field. On top of that, the Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living has 20 tickets available that cost $6 for baseball fans with disabilities and $12 for family and friends of the NNCIL. Tickets come with a voucher for a free Aces ball cap and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. To purchase tickets for the June 18 game in advance, call 775-353-3599 or stop by the NNCIL on 999 Pyramid Way.
Treat Dad to 3D Flick: Heart-pounding sound, awe-inspiring images, and a fully immersive experience are words that have been used to describe the Galaxy Luxury+ IMAX Theatre at the Outlets at Legends in Sparks. Movies now playing include Wonder Woman and The Mummy. For show times, visit https://www.imax.com/theatres/galaxy-luxury-sparks-imax.
Father’s Day at the Reno Rodeo: Deemed the “wildest, richest rodeo in the West”, the Reno Rodeo rolls back into town June 15-24 at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. On Sunday, June 18, rodeo events include the Cowboy Church at 9am followed by mutton bustin’, barrel racing, bareback, bull riding, businessman steer decorating, bullfights, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, team roping, and more! Pro Watercross National Tour June 17-18 at the Sparks Marina: Professional and amateur athletes take to the water at the Sparks Marina to show what is possible on a PWC in this action-packed weekend. Reaching speeds of over 85 mph, competitors take their advanced equipment to the extreme while performing incredible freestyle stunts on the water. The Rock Church’s Father’s Day Chili Cook-Off: If you’re a Sunday church goer, consider sticking around after the service for a special chili cook-off and lunch at The Rock Church. Starting at 11:30 a.m., you are welcome to taste test the chili and pick your favorite along with “the rock pastors”. Anyone can enter their beloved chili family recipe for a chance to win the People’s Choice, Judge’s Choice, Most Creative Recipe, and Spiciest Recipe. Tee off against Dad in a Game of Golf: The fairways are green and the ponds are full, so it’s time to dust off those clubs and play a round with dad. Red Hawk Golf and Resort offers two courses that play to a par 72. The Lakes public course has almost 7,000 yards of natural lakes, more than 100 bunkers, and cottonwood trees. Even if you simply want to take your dad to a nice, relaxing lunch, David’s Grill at Red Hawk serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner right on the course. For more information, visit http://redhawkresort.com/. Wildcreek Golf Course over on 3500 Sullivan Lane features an 18-hole Championship Course or if you’re pressed for time, you can play a quick 9 with dad on the Executive Course. http://www.wildcreekgolf.net
