Reed’s freshman scored the only goal of the match on Wednesday night at Damonte Ranch, giving the Raiders 1-0 win to open 4A North play.
Castillo netted his first varsity goal in the 60th minute as the Raiders improved to 2-1-1, 1-0.
The Raiders put seven shots on frame. Hunter Ehlers denied all for the Mustangs’ shot on target.
It was the two team’s second consecutive meeting. They played to a scoreless non-league draw at South Tahoe on Saturday evening.
Reed will play its first home game of the season next Wednesday against Bishop Manogue.
Cougars sneak past Colts
Spanish Springs pushed an early season winning streak to three games on Wednesday night with a 2-1 road win at Wooster in the 4A North opener for both teams.
The Cougars (3-1, 1-0) snapped a three-year skid to the Colts (0-1, 0-1) with the victory.
Cristian Camacho and Wilmer Hernandez both scored in the first half to give Spanish Springs a 2-1 lead at the half. Neither team found the net over the final 40 minutes.
Carson will play at Spanish Springs next Wednesday night in the Cougars’ home opener.
