The Spanish Springs High football team won its conference opener Friday night when they defeated McQueen 30-22 at home.
Coming off of two straight losses, the Cougs were able to get on the board early and took a 21-16 lead into the break. The defense took it the rest of the way for the home team as they held the Lancers to just six second-half points on their way to the victory.
Jackson Laduke and Chase Martin each had a sack for the Cougs while Colby Melton, Gabby Ordaz, and Ossian Liber all recorded an interception. Colby Preston led the defense in tackles with 15.
Spanish Springs improved to 3-3 overall with the win and 1-0 in conference play. They will use their bye to rest up this week before hosting North Valleys Oct. 13.
