In a pivotal game in the 4A Northern High Desert Conference, Spanish Springs marched into the house of its crosstown rival Reed and came away with a 4-1 win.
Ashlee Pittard once again led the way for her Cougar club with two goals, while Aubrey Borino and Yalison Espinosa each netted one of their own in the win. Goalkeeper Alycia Flora had three saves for the Cougars who improved to 8-2-4 overall and 3-1-1 in league play.
The Cougars now sit in second place behind McQueen, who they played at home Tuesday night.
Reed (5-5-2, 1-2-2) hosted North Valleys Tuesday and will play at Reno on Saturday in a battle of third place teams.
Sparks
It was a rough week for the Sparks High girls soccer team.
The Railroaders took three losses in four days, including an 8-0 blanking at home against South Tahoe.
The girls also fell 3-1 on Friday at Elko and 6-1 Saturday at Spring Creek, and now sit in eight places in the 3A Northern standings.
Sparks will look to get back on track this week when they travel to South Tahoe on Friday.
