On Nov. 11-12, the 2nd Annual Handmade for the Holidays at Red Hawk Golf and Resort located at 6600 North Wingfield Parkway in Sparks will be bigger and better than ever. Over 40 local vendors will be onsite selling all sorts of handcrafted gifts to people who want to get a jumpstart on their holiday shopping.
Last year, hundreds of people showed up for the event and many shoppers expressed that they wished the show extended through Sunday. Therefore, this year Handmade for the Holidays will be two days long and more vendors are added to the lineup. Plus, David’s Bar and Grill will be selling food and drinks.
Organizer and Spanish Springs resident Megan Gisi has been creating crocheted afghans, murals, organic lotions, skincare items, and other unique items for several years as well as help others organize craft shows. As one of the few craft fairs in the area that features only handcrafted items, Handmade for the Holidays is an opportunity for people to find one-and-only unique gifts while also supporting/showcasing Northern Nevada small business owners.
Gisi wanted to hold Handmade for the Holidays in Sparks because she grew up in the area and feels that Red Hawk offers the perfect setting for a local crafts show. “I love it out here. Red Hawk has such a beautiful facility and I wanted to be able to utilize their space. Spanish Springs/Wingfield residents always have to drive to Reno areas for craft shows and I wanted to be able to bring the arts out to our neighborhood for a change,” she says.
Although the show will offer a great lineup from all over the Northern Nevada region, some favorite Sparks’ vendors include Purple Goddess Design, Penney’s Custom Designs, Knot Too Shabby, Designs By Megan, Dreams to Reality Pottery, Copper Cat Studio and more.
“There will be something for everyone at this show again…jewelry, pottery, glass fusion, crochet/knit, skin care, candles, wreaths, pens, cards, metalworkers, woodworkers, furniture, upcycled items, embroidery, food, mosaics, clothes, leather gifts, gemstones, Christmas villages, and so much more,” says Gisi.
Handmade for the Holidays will also be hosting a raffle with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the Reno Initiative for Shelter and Equality. Prizes include gift certificates to Ruby River, yard art from Like Your Junk-Smitten Designs, and a spa gift basket from Designs By Megan.
“I love what RISE stands for- bringing the community together over food and helping to feed the less fortunate. We were able to raise over $500 dollars last year for them and we’d love to be able to raise even more for them this year. The money goes very far, as just $5 feeds up to 15 people. All of our vendors will be donating a raffle item, as well as some local businesses,” Gisi says.
Handmade for the Holidays will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12. Admission and parking are free. For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/pg/HandmadeForTheHolidaysSparks.
