The Reed High football team is moving on to the regional semifinals after taking down Galena 62-13 last Thursday in the 4A Northern quarterfinal playoff matchup.
The Raiders raced out to an early lead and put the Grizzlies in a whole they could never climb out of. After scoring 27 points in the first quarter, Reed followed with three touchdowns in the second to take a commanding 48-13 halftime lead.
Senior quarterback Cameron Emerson was efficient in the win as he completed eight of nine passes for 182 yards and threw for five touchdowns. Josiah Schmidt and Grant Cotter each hauled in two touchdown catches while Dominic Wrede was responsible for the other.
However, it was the rushing attack of the Raiders that shined the brightest as seven players combined for 220 yards and four scores on 25 carries. Schmidt led the way with 69 yards and a touchdown, while Champ Robertson, George Moreno, and Baylor Horning also reached the end zone.
On the other side of the ball, Eric Schmitz Moran recorded a pair of sacks and fellow seniors Jake Olson and Vehekite Afu both git to the Grizzlies quarterback once. Olson also led his team with 12 tackles.
With the win, the Raiders advanced to the semifinals where they will take on Damonte Ranch, the top seed from the Sierra League. Damonte is fresh off a 52-13 win over McQueen in the quarterfinals and is undefeated on the season with an overall record of 11-0.
The game will be played at Damonte Ranch Friday night with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
