Spanish Springs
The Spanish Springs boys basketball team played in the Under Armour Holiday Classic in Southern California last week and finished with two wins and two losses.
Leo Grass finished with 20 points and Jalen Townsell had 17 as the Cougs took down Santa Clarita Christian 72-57 in their first game of the tourney last Wednesday. The boys took on Lincoln the next day and fell 86-63, despite 16 points from Townsell and 11 from DJ Panfili.
Townsell led the way with 27 points on Friday as the Cougs bounced back with 66-54 win against Genesis Prep Academy. Panfili finished with 14 in the win and Grass had 13. Spanish Springs fell in a tight game to Bakersfield on Saturday in its last game of the tourney, 61-57. Townsell led the way with 20 while Grass poured in 15.
The Cougars (12-4, 6-0) return to league play on the road Tuesday against McQueen before playing at North Valleys on Jan. 12.
Reed
The Raiders salvaged the last game they played in the Rail City Classic last week, a 72-68 win over Bella Vista, Calif. on Friday. Reed fell in a pair of games the day before, 71-61 to Santa Teresa, Calif. and 62-43 to Galena.
Reed returns to action on Tuesday at North Valleys before hosting Reno next Friday.
Sparks
It’s been a tough start to the season for the Sparks High boys basketball team, and it didn’t get any better last week as they fell in all three games they played in the Rail City Classic tourney.
The boys lost to Sierra Lutheran 60-51 last Wednesday and 59-48 to Quincy on Thursday before falling to Yerington on Friday, 68-46.
The Railroaders look to get into the win column for the first time this season tonight at Quincy, before playing at Elko on Friday and Spring Creek on Saturday.
