Reed earns split after win at North Valleys
Three Spanish Springs players scored 20 points or more as the Cougs defeated crosstown rival Reed in a high scoring affair last Tuesday, 90-75.
The Raiders held with the Cougs, who came into the contest undefeated in league play, in the first half and took a 42-39 lead into the break on its home floor. However, Spanish Springs would explode for 51 points in the second half, led by Jalen Townsell who finished with a game-high 27 points. Leo Grass and DJ Panfili scored 20 points in the win and Dante Craig had six points and eight rebounds.
Townsell led his Cougs to another win with 17 points on Friday over McQueen at home, 61-39. Twelve Spanish Springs players got into the scoring column as they led big at the half and cruised to another win.
The Cougs (18-4, 12-0) hosted North Valleys Tuesday and play at Hug Friday night.
Reed improved to 4-4 in the High Desert League and 12-11 overall after a 75-52 win over North Valleys Friday night at home. The Raiders sit in third place in the conference standings and played at Reno last night before traveling to McQueen Friday night at 6:15 p.m.
Sparks
The Railroaders lost its only game last week and are still seeking their first win with five games left in the season.
The boys traveled to Winnemucca and fell 65-35 to Lowry Friday night.
Sparks has three games this week that started with a league contest at Fernley on Tuesday. They host Elko on Friday and Spring Creek Saturday.
Excel Christian
Jesse Bain scored 19 points and Anthony Patton chipped in 13 for Excel last Tuesday at Virginia City, but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors fell on the Comstock 79-66. The loss was the start of a busy week that saw Excel play three games in five days.
The Warriors were on the road again on Friday and earned a 52-51 win before falling to Mineral County at home the next day, 80-48.
Excel (6-11, 3-8) has its hands full again this week with another full slate. They played at Coleville yesterday and play at Loyalton, Calif. tonight before traveling to Whittell Friday.
