Spanish Springs
The Spanish Springs boys basketball team picked up another pair of wins last week, and the team is now two wins away from finishing the conference schedule a perfect 16-0. It was the 31st consecutive league win for the boys.
Mason Whitaker led the way with 20 points and Jalen Townsell finished with 10 in a 69-45 win against North Valleys last Tuesday. DJ Panfili and Dante Craig each scored nine points in a game that saw the Cougs have 11 players reach the scoring column.
The Cougs followed up that performance by scoring 69 points in the first three quarters on Friday as they cruised to a 73-47 win at Hug. Townsell scored 19 points in the win while Leo Grass added 12 and Whitaker 11.
Spanish Springs (20-4, 14-0) leads the High Desert League by two games over Reno with two games to go. They hosted Reno yesterday and finish out the conference slate Friday at home against Reed.
Reed
The Raiders kept a strong hold on third place in the High Desert League after winning two tough games last week on the road.
Last Tuesday, Reed gutted out a 74-69 win at second place Reno and then followed that up on Friday with an impressive 51-48 victory at McQueen.
The Raiders improved to 10-4 in league play. They hosted Hug yesterday and play at Spanish Springs on Friday.
Sparks
After losing a pair of games last week, the Railroaders have two more chances to get into the win column as the season winds down.
Sparks fell 59-37 to Elko at home on Friday and lost 43-32 to Spring Creek Saturday.
The boys played at South Tahoe yesterday and will host Churchill County Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in its final game of the season.
Excel Christian
The Excel boys played three games in four days last week and started the stretch by taking down Coleville 53-40 last Tuesday behind 20 points from Jeshua Fixel and nine by Jesse Bain.
Shadrack Rodriguez led the Warriors with 16 points on Wednesday and Fixel added 12 but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors fell at Loyalton 59-49. Bain, Samson Rodriguez and Danny Makoutz each scored five in the loss.
The boys finished the week with a tough loss at Whittell, 81-22.
Whittell finishes up its season on Saturday at home at 4 p.m. against Pyramid Lake.
