A thrilling 43-42 win over Reno all but locked up the top seed in the 4A Northern girls playoffs for the Spanish Springs girls basketball team last Tuesday. The Cougs went on to officially take that spot with a 62-53 win over rival Reed in the final game of the regular season for both teams.
The Cougs finished with a record of 14-2 in the High Desert League and will open the playoffs with the No. 4 seed from the Sierra League, Damonte Ranch tonight at 7 p.m. at home. The Cougs defeated the Mustangs 55-39 on Dec. 21 in their only matchup this year.
The Raiders went on to finish in fourth place and will be the No. 4 seed from the HDL when they travel to No. 1 seed Bishop Manogue from the Sierra League. The two teams didn’t meet in the regular season.
In the two other matchups, No. 2 Douglas from the HDL will host No. 3 Reno from the HDL while HDL’s No. 2 seed McQueen hosts No. 3 Galena from the Sierra. The winners will play Friday at Spanish Springs in the semifinals with the championship game set for 4 p.m. Saturday.
