Reed
After falling in extra innings to Carson last Thursday, the Reed softball team came back to sweep an important doubleheader in Saturday over Reno.
The Raiders held a 5-0 lead after two innings of play against the Senators but never got another run across the plate in a 7-5 nine inning loss. Reed’s Carla Hernandez led both teams with three hits, two of the doubles, and two runs scored. Alycia Coats had two hits and a pair of RBIs in the loss.
Saturday was a different story for the home team as Reed came out of the gates with a 7-0 win in game one of the doubleheader against the Huskies. Aliya Lange was brilliant in the circle with seven strong innings of shutout ball and 10 strikeouts. Lange also hit one of three home runs for the Raiders as Hernandez and Coats also connected for a long ball. Reed banged out 12 hits in the win led by Hernandez with three, Lange and Coats with two and Madison Zucco with a pair as well.
Ally Boyd shut down the Huskies in game two with five and a third innings and no earned runs on the rubber as Reed picked up a 5-2 win. Jilian Kyger had a pair of hits and drove in a run for Reed and Jackie Garcia smacked an RBI triple.
The Raiders (13-9-2, 10-5) now sit in third place in conference and play at Wooster tomorrow before traveling to McQueen Saturday for two.
Spanish Springs
Three more wins for Spanish Springs last week brought its win streak to eight straight and all but locked up first place in the High Desert League with five games remaining.
Tyra Clary went seven strong innings and struck out six for the Cougs last Thursday as they topped Douglas 3-1. Aubrey Parks had three of her teams six hits, including a pair of doubles and two RBIs in the win.
Clary was back in the circle again on Saturday for an 8-0 win at North Valleys in game one of the doubleheader. The sophomore struck out 12 and didn’t allow a run on four hits in seven innings of work. Parks finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and ended up a home run shy of the cycle while Katelyn Townsend had two hits and a pair of RBIs.
The Cougs smacked 17 hits in game two on the way to a 15-0 win in four innings. Parks continued her hot stretch with three doubles, a single and four runs knocked in while Hunter Travers had three RBIs on two singles. Amidori Anderson, Kilee Pender, Townsend and Clary also had two hits each.
The Cougs (22-2, 14-1) look to continue their streak this week when they take on Damonte Ranch tomorrow at 3:45 p.m.
