Reno 1868 FC added San Antonio to the latest stop on its undefeated tour Saturday night.
Reno’s undefeated streak was extended to 12-straight after a 2-0 win over San Antonio FC in front of a stunned Toyota Field crowd.
Reno’s quest at sweeping the regular season series against San Antonio started in the 27th minute after the club was awarded a free kick from about 25 yards out.
Midfielder Jerry van Ewijk took full advantage sneaking in an absolute cracker that clipped the crossbar and put Reno up 1-0. The goal was van Ewijk’s third this season 11th all-time in the USL.
Reno maintained a 1-0 lead at halftime thanks to incredible acrobatic saves by goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski. Reno continued to apply pressure into the second half and set up a chance for the club’s top sub this season.
Forward Brian Brown came on in the 53rd minute and as he’s done all season, provided that extra second half spark.
Brown was part of a beautiful sequence to set up his fifth goal this year (team high) off Antoine Hoppenot’s sixth assist of the year (team high).
Marcinkowski remained steady to lock up his second clean sheet of the season, helping Reno remain perfect on the road.
Reno now heads back home to Greater Nevada Field to take on Portland Timbers 2 on Saturday, June 30 at 7:15 p.m. The match is the first of a two-match homestand that concludes with a July 3 showdown with Western Conference leaders, Real Monarchs SLC.
