Spanish Springs standout pitcher Tyra Clary received a big honor recently and was named to the 2018 MaxPreps national high school underclass softball All-American team.
The list, compiled of freshman, sophomores and juniors, highlights the season’s of the best players in the country by position. Clary was named as a utility player as she starred as both a hitter and a pitcher last season during the Cougs state title run.
The sophomore finished the season with a 27-1 record and an earned run average of .127. Clary also went the distance in 23 of those wins, including 14 shutouts, three no hitters and 162 total strikeouts.
She also won three games in the state tournament while pitching with a broke hand, including the 6-2 state title clinching win over Douglas on May 19.
Clary was the only player in the state to be named to the list.
