The Reno Aces rallied to win four straight after losing its first three last week and finish with a winning record from July 22-29. Reno lost to Las Vegas 15-6 on Sunday and followed that with 4-1 and 8-0 losses at New Orleans on Tuesday and Wednesday.
But the team’s luck changed directions after Yasmany Tomas hit a pinch hit grand slam on Thursday to spark his team to an 11-7 victory over the Baby Cakes. The Aces went on to dominate the rest of the series, winning 3-0, 3-1 and 8-0 respectively.
Ildemaro Vargas extended his season-long hit streak to 25 games on Sunday following a 2-for-4 performance. Vargas is 43-for-109 with 19 runs scored, 12 RBIs and nine doubles. Additionally, his two hits moved him into sole possession of second place in Aces franchise history with 344. Only Cole Gillespie (399) has more.
The Aces wrapped up its series with Round Rock on Monday before returning home for three with Colorado Springs beginning tonight.
Reno moved into sole possession of second place in the PCL Pacific Northern division after Sunday’s win. As of Monday afternoon, the club sits eight games behind Fresno for first with a little more than a month to play in the regular season.
