Football begins this weekend for two Rail City teams as Spanish Springs and Sparks High will both hit the road to get the 2018 season underway.
Cougars coach Eric Borja will lead his team up the hill to Lake Tahoe to take on California High from San Ramon at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Borja will look to lean on experience from the 15 seniors on his roster as they look to improve on a 2017 season that saw them reach the playoffs and finish 6-6 overall.
Spanish Springs has a busy road ahead and won’t get a break until their lone bye week the last week of September. They play at Nevada Union next week in Grass Valley before hosting their first game Aug. 31 against Monterey Trail, Calif.
On the Railroaders side of things, they will have their work cut out for them Friday when they play at 4A Douglas at 7:30 p.m. They open up league play the following week at Lowry before playing their first home game Aug. 31 with South Tahoe.
Coach Brad Rose and his squad will look to build on the momentum from the 2017 season that saw them make the playoffs in the final week of the season.
