As 2018 ends, it’s a time to celebrate the past year and then start planning out your hopes, dreams, and ambitions for the next. So, before you get all serious about New Year’s resolutions, take this last opportunity to eat fine food, drink, and be merry as we welcome in 2019. Here are some fun New Year’s Eve Sparks events leading up to say good riddance to 2018 and welcome in the new year:
Ring in the New Year with Tantalizing Treats at Red Hawk
David’s Grill at Red Hawk Golf and Resort will have a special breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu available on New Year’s as well as an exclusive party for those 21 and up from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Dinner items include an appetizer of Caprese Frito, salad, or Seared Day Boat Scallops; an entrée of Roasted Vegetable Gratin, Chicken Valentino, or Bone-In Ribeye Duet; and White Chocolate Mascarpone Mousse for dessert, followed by a champagne toast for $60 per person. Reservations highly recommended by calling 775-321-5942.
Great Basin Brewing Company Green and Gold Ball with Mojo Green
Local favorites Mojo Green will be rocking the house at Great Basin in Victorian Square in this NYE with live music, great food and drinks, and lots of bling. Promising to be their biggest show yet, Great Basin’s third annual throwdown starts at 8 p.m. and goes into the early hours of 2019. Tickets are $30, visit www.greatbasinbrewingco.com for details.
Make NYE a Memorable One with Dinner and The Temptations at the Nugget
Motown legends The Temptations will be spending New Year’s in Sparks by wooing the audience with their golden era hits at the Nugget Casino Resort Grand Ballroom. Along with enjoying a live performance of these soul legends, the Nugget is serving a special 3-course dinner with upscale items such as lobster ravioli, beef tenderloin, and black currant cheesecake for dessert. This show is open to ages 21 and older, tickets range from $85-$125. www.nuggetcasinoresort.com
Avoid the Crowds at the Huntsman Tavern
If you want to party but you don’t want to deal with downtown crowds, head over to the Huntsman Tavern on 880 Holman Way. Even though you can indulge in unique craft beers and good company year-round, on New Year’s Eve the Huntsman will be offering giveaways, drink specials, and a champagne toast at midnight.
The State’s Best Fireworks Shows
The City of Reno is once again hosting a fireworks show downtown at the stroke of midnight that is rumored to rival those in Las Vegas (apparently the show in Downtown Reno is 5 minutes longer). The event is aired on local news stations, but if you’re in the predicament where you want to go to bed early, but you still want to see a live show, then consider heading up to Mt. Rose ski resort. After the lifts stop turning at 4 p.m., enjoy the Snow Cat Parade at 4:30 p.m. followed by a kids torchlight parade and fireworks show at 5:45 p.m. If you start to get a little chilly in between events, enjoy some free hot cocoa in the main lodge. www.skirose.com.
