Victorian Avenue from Rock Boulevard to 16th Street will be closed to through traffic until Aug. 31 while the Regional Transportation Commission does corrective maintenance, which officials said will result in smoother pavement and safer conditions.
Reconstruction of the roadway will be taking place during the closure. Signage will direct drivers on a short detour.
The project also involves replacing a water main in coordination with the Truckee Meadows Water Authority and the city of Sparks. The project will also create a concrete surface for Victorian Avenue just east of Rock Boulevard that will preserve the surface better, RTC officials said. That part of the road is often used by buses.
As the project progresses, the intersections of Victorian Avenue and Rock Boulevard and Victorian Avenue and 16th Street will have to be closed. Those closures, which will be short in duration, are tentatively scheduled near the end of the month.
