Reed traveled to Manogue on Tuesday to kickoff the girls soccer season.
Things started quick when Reed senior Alli Miller scored within the first 30 seconds of the game but the Raiders went on to fall 4-1.
Despite the fast start, Reed was down 2-1 at the half thanks to goals from Manogue’s captains Marin Zaccheo and SarahWhitehead.
Zaccheo scored another goal for the Miners in the 52nd minute and sophomore Hannah Reviglio scored a final goal in the 66th.
“We’re just young and learning to play at this level,” Reed coach Jason Saville said. “Half the team is sophomores and today we just got a little shell-shocked by a good team. It was a little disheartening because we knew how they were going to play and trained for that type of game.”
The Miners (1-0, 1-0) play at Spanish Springs next Tuesday. The Raiders (0-1, 0-1) travel to Carson the same day.
“We’re just going to have to work on possessing the ball under pressure,” Saville said.

Makayla Long broke a 1-1 tie in the 65th minute and team captain Alli Lepori added an insurance goal four minutes later to seal the win.
“Wooster was better than I thought, and that’s because of their good coaching staff,” Spanish Springs coach Mike Faker said. “The goal we gave up was because of some mistakes, but there were still good things [in the game].”
Wooster’s Leslie Ramos tied the game at one in the 60th minute, five minutes after Ashlee Pittard put the Cougs up 1-0.
Spanish Springs (1-0, 1-0) hosts Bishop Manogue next Tuesday at 7 p.m. Wooster (0-1, 0-1) hosts Sparks Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in a non-league meeting.
