The supposedly inevitable Hillary Clinton coronation as the Democratic candidate for president is slowly crumbling away.
As of last week the Clinton email scandal expanded widely as the person of interest herself was not able to stem the flood of new revelations and more pressing questions from the media. Clinton herself has seemingly developed a bunker mentality when it comes to her travails. Trying to joke about the situation or to explain it away by saying that it is simply a systemic failure of government has not worked for her.
In an effort to re-package herself, she has finally gotten rid of her raucous laugh of past years and has replaced it with a friendly giggle, abetted by a phony smile reminiscent of the Mad Magazine cover boy.
When pressed by the inquiring media, she has remained strangely dismissive to their requests for transparency. Instead of revealing pertinent details about the email imbroglio, she has left it to sporadic leaks from the FBI investigation. From those reports so far, we have learned that she and her two top aids, Cheryl Miller and Uma Abedin, formed an unholy triumvirate that operated wholly outside government jurisdiction. Along with input from ostracized Sydney Blumenthal, the Hillary “shadow government” was responsible to no one, particularly her boss, the president himself.
This entire clandestine operation is endemic to the Obama administration as virtually all his official departments seem to operate as tiny fiefdoms. While he is quick to label it as “my” administration, he seems to only learn of problems when they are revealed by the hated press corps.
A little heat was removed from Hillary last week when it was revealed that the defamed Lois Lerner had used as many as three separate email accounts in the conduct of her partisan work at the IRS. She even had the audacity to conduct government business on an email account that was apparently named after the family dog.
An interesting poll taken last week was based on the question, “What word comes to mind when you hear the name Hillary Clinton?” Coming in at first place was LIAR, second was DISHONEST, and the third was UNTRUSTWORTHY.
Seeing this, Hillary promptly cancelled her vacation and returned to the campaign trail. On this return, Hillary’s vitriol was on full display when she compared the Republican field of candidates to the overseas terrorists. This came when she resurrected the old battle cry of war on Women. This is particularly strange, since when she was Secretary of State she did little to advance the cause of womanhood worldwide. In fact, she cozied up to leaders of countries where women receive the harshest treatment.
As choppy as the campaign seas are at present for Hillary, there are tremendous storm clouds looming on the horizon in the persons of Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. How she navigates the ill winds will be a real test of her veracity and determination to be our country’s leader.
