McQueen won its first High Desert League girls golf tournament of the season in convincing fashion Tuesday at Somersett Country Club and Golf Course—the Lancers’ home course.
McQueen’s team score of 345 was 54 strokes better than runner-up Reno. Spanish Springs turned in a 404 to finish third in front of Reed (433).
Junior Emma Gilmore carded an 87 to lead the Cougars. She was followed by Jada McAlister (93), Katie Gilbertson (111) and Kierra Hornbarger (113).
Reed was once again paced by freshman Kaitlin Fleiner (92). Mackenzie Howren (110), Abby Horner (113) and Darby Grow (118) made up the rest of the Raiders’ scores.
Alice Duan of McQueen claimed medalist honors with a 5-over-par 77. She was six strokes better than runner up, Abigail Fleiner of Reno. Duan has turned in the best individual score at all four HDL tournaments this fall.
The HDL tournament circuit continues next Wednesday at Wildcreek Golf Course with the league title still very much up for grabs.
Reno has claimed two tournaments and Spanish Springs and McQueen have both won one.
