Spanish Springs improved its first-round score by 18 strokes on Thursday, in the final round of the girls golf state tournament, to finish fourth overall at Primm Valley Golf Club in Nipton, Calif.
After shooting a 367 on Wednesday, the Cougs turned in a 349 on Thursday to leapfrog McQueen with a 716. The Lancers, the DI North champ, finished fifth with a 721.
Jada McAlister carded a two-day score of 158 (78-80) to finish tied for eighth overall, leading the Cougs.
She was followed by teammates Emma Gilmore (87-75—162) who finished 13th, Ciara Hornbarger (95-99—194) who finished tied for 35th and Katie Gilbertson (111-95—206) who finished 40th—one spot ahead of Grace Bartlett (107-100—207).
Reed freshman Kaitlin Fleiner qualified for the state tournament as an individual and finished 28th overall after shooting a 94 on Wednesday and an 82 on Thursday for a two-day score of 176.
McQueen’s Alice Duan, the DI North individual champ, had the best tournament of any golfer from Northern Nevada. She turned in a two-day score of 148 (78-70) to finish third, five strokes behind state champion Annick Haczkiewicz of Palo Verde.
Coronado won the team state title with a score of 623. Bishop Gorman (637) finished second and Palo Verde (660) claimed third.
