Well, Sparks has made it onto a sweet list– ranked No. 7 among the Best Places to Trick-or-Treat.
The list was compiled by Smartasset, a New York City financial technology company that provides advice on personal financial decisions. The company said it collected data on more than 300 of America’s cities.
To determine the best places for trick-or-treating, Smartasset said it analyzed crime rates, average temperature and the probability of precipitation on Oct. 31, the number of single-family houses per square mile, the number of children age 14 or younger as a percentage of the total population and the average home value in each city.
Here’s what the company said about Sparks in ranking the city No. 7:
“Situated just outside of Reno in the high desert of central Nevada, Sparks receives very little rain in October, or any other time of the year. That makes for dry conditions on Halloween. While the average high temperature on October 31st is just about perfect (63.4 degrees) trick-or-treaters should keep in mind that temperatures fall quickly after dark in the arid Nevada climate.”
Smartasset said eight of the top 10 places are in the West, including two each in Utah and Idaho, thanks to the generally drier and milder weather conditions on Halloween.
The country’s best spot for trick-or-treating went to Nampa, Idaho, which the company described as a town of 80,000 that “has extremely safe streets and enjoys cool, dry autumns.”
Carson City was ranked No. 20.
Michigan, meanwhile, was the only state east of the Mississippi River that had cities on the list, with Saginaw and Dearborn ranked sixth and eighth respectively, thanks in part, the company said, to their high density of single-family homes.
