With help from members of the Reno Bighorns basketball team, the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows served up its annual Community Thanksgiving dinner at its facility on Ninth Street in Reno.
Reno Bighorn players pitched in to be waiters for the 12th annual dinner, delivering turkey dinners to people who wouldn’t otherwise have a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
David Taylor, the club’s marketing director, said the pre-Thanksgiving event usually feeds about 1,500 people.
“It’s always been a good tradition here,” he said between taking photographs at last Wednesday’s dinner.
The event also included free flu shots from the University of Nevada School Of Medicine, free family holiday photos, a station to process holiday letters for those who can’t visit loved ones and an area for donating coats for the winter. Members of the UNR women’s basketball team and their coach helped with the coats.
U.S. Foods, Franco Baking Co., and Western Nevada Supply helped sponsor the dinner.
