1. Galena Grizzlies
Until someone knocks them off, the Grizzlies are the team to beat after winning the regional title a season ago. Galena returns three starters from last year’s squad, including junior Dillon Voyles, who will be one of many players in the North to watch this year.
2. Spanish Springs Cougars
Coach Kyle Penney has turned developed Spanish Springs into one of the marquee programs in Northern Nevada. Marcus Loadholt and Jake Prizina will be one of the best 1-2 combos in the area.
3. Carson Senators
The Senators fell in the regional title game to Galena last February and, led by Asa Carter, figure to be one of the last teams standing once again this February.
4. McQueen Lancers
Last season didn’t treat the Lancers well as they missed the postseason. But they were young. Four starters return from last year’s squad and Octavian and Kejohn Corley, two towering brothers who moved from North Valleys, join the mix.
5. Reno Huskies
Reno, like many teams in Northern Nevada, struggled to score at times last season. Coach Matt Ochs believes that will begin to change this year with improved shooting.
