The Sparks boys fell to 1-3 on the season with a brutal loss on Friday afternoon in the Rail City Classic at Wooster High.
Sparks led Damonte Ranch all afternoon but lost that lead in the final 40 seconds, due largely to missing its last 10 free throws, and fell 40-38. It was Damonte’s first win in eight tries.
Ricky Guadron led the Railroaders with nine points. Aaron Mastin and Matt Longland each finished with eight.
The Railroaders will attempt to bounce back on Saturday morning in their final game of the Rail City Classic against Lovelock. Tip at Sparks is at 11:30 a.m.
Springs Creek girls handle Sparks
Sparks dropped their DI-A North opener in a big way, 57-7, at Spring Creek on Friday night.
The Railroaders dropped to 0-2, 0-1. The Spartans improved to 3-1, 1-0.
Cynthia Barela led Sparks with three points.
Sparks will again look for league win No. 1 on Saturday at Elko at 1 p.m.
