Spanish Springs’ roster is tough to recognize right now.

Due to numerous reasons, a number of regulars missed out on this weekend’s Easter weekend tournament at Shadow Mountain Park.

With the reshaped roster, the Cougars fell in pool play on Friday and had to settle for playing in the No. 2 bracket on Saturday.

Spanish Springs fell to Douglas, 10-9 (eight innings), before beating Carson, 6-1. With Saturday’s split, the Cougars (5-3) finished third in the No. 2 bracket, seventh overall out of the 15 teams. They were the runners up a season ago.

Spanish Springs will return to DI North play with a home doubleheader against North Valleys next Saturday.

Spanish Springs 6, Carson 1

Sophomore Amidori Anderson allowed just one run on six hits in a six-inning complete game to lead the Cougs over the Senators in Saturday’s final game.

She was backed by an offense that finished with 12 hits—two apiece from Regan Hubbard (2-for-4), Kourtney Townsend (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBIs), Hayley Fein (2-for-3) and Aubrey Parks (2-for-3).

Amidori also helped her own cause with a two-run homer.

The Cougars used a three-run second inning and a two-run fourth to aid the winning cause.

Douglas 10, Spanish Springs 9 (eight innings)

The Cougars scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 9-4 deficit but ultimately fell in eight innings in Saturday’s first game.

Spanish Springs came up short despite outhitting the Tigers, 13-9. Neither team was particularly sharp defensively. The Cougars committed four errors to the Tigers’ three.

Rylee Retzer was 1-for-4 in the losing cause with her lone hit being a two-run home run. Courtney Huff went 3-for-5 with a double and a pair of runs scored.

Hayley Fein pitched all 7.2 innings for the Cougars, wearing the loss.
