Courtesy photos With a sleek copper-colored body for his car Liam Malley (far right), of Pack 443 in Spanish Springs, took first place in Northstar District’s annual Pinewood Derby held at The Legends on Saturday morning, March 18. With moms, dads, grandparents and Scouters looking on, six heats were held before the final six cars remained. The final competition was held after each pack had held its own Pinewood Derby and the top three winners of those racers advanced to the finals. Other winners were: Alex Bankert, not present, of Pack 3396 took second place; (from right) Monroe Fisher of Pack 18 took third place; Daniel Jennings of Pack 500 took fourth place; Hank Cook of Pack 16 of Carson City took fifth place and Dylan Luke of Pack 14 took sixth place. As the Pinewood Derby race cars cross the finish line, parent volunteers capture the small vehicles prior to the edge of the track to prevent them from being damaged.
