Ryan Anderson strengthened his Pitcher of the Year bid on Thursday afternoon.
The lanky lefty allowed just two hits in six shutout innings as Spanish Springs blanked Douglas, 6-0, at home. He struck out six and walked just one batter.
The Cougs improved to 13-3, 8-0. The Tigers fell to 5-11, 2-6.
Anderson only allowed one runner to get past second in the win. That came in the fourth when he wiggled out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam.
The Cougs led 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth before scoring three times. Marlin Brucato (2-4, triple, double, 2 RBIs, run) started the rally with a two-run triple. He scored one batter latter on an Alan Lummel sacrifice fly.
Lummel (2-for-3, 2 doubles) drove in the final run of the game in the bottom of the six with his second double of the day, immediately after a Brucato double.
Spanish Springs goes to McQueen (4-10-1, 2-5) on Saturday.
Galena completes sweep of Reed
Reed was unable to hang on to an early 6-2 lead at Galena on Thursday.
After scoring six runs in the four innings, the Raiders (12-3, 5-3) allowed the Grizzlies (10-3-1, 7-1) to score eight unanswered runs and steal a 10-6 contest.
Reed was outhit 14-5 in the loss.
Vinnie Fillipone was 2-for-3 with a triple, 3 RBIs and a run scored.
The Raiders, who lost at home to Galena on Tuesday, will attempt to end their first losing streak of the season on Saturday at home against Hug (1-9, 0-8).
