The DI North boys golf regional tournament is halfway home.
After the first day, at ArrowCreek, Galena owns a comfortable lead with a 381. The Grizzlies are followed by Bishop Manogue (398), Reno (415), McQueen (435), Reed (438), Spanish Springs (457), Carson (495) and Damonte Ranch (507).
The first-round result was disappointing for one local squad, Reed, which won all six High Desert League tournaments this spring and was aiming at a top-two finish, which would earn a team state berth. Now, the Raiders have 40 strokes to make up and three teams to jump to get into the No. 2 slot.
Monday’s 438 team score was Reed’s highest of the season. The Raiders averaged a 420 in their six tournament victories.
Jayce Robinson shot an 80 to lead the Raiders. He sits in a tie for eighth place overall and is one stroke back of the lead among all golfers not on one of the top two teams. The top five individual finishers who aren’t on the first- or second-place team earn state berths.
Robinson is followed by Nate Daylo (83—14th place), Brandon Forman (85—19th), Jimmy Harris (90—T26th) and Cade Baker (100—T41st).
Nick Frankoski turned in an 80 for the Cougs and is tied with Robinson for eighth. Logan Cox (84—T15th), Chase Martin (95—33rd), Pat Penrod (99—T38th) and Payne Avera (99—T38th) made up the rest of the Cougars’ team score.
Galena’s Connor Motherway fired a 1-under 71 to take the overall lead. Bishop Manogue’s Ollie Osborne (72) and Michael Boye (73) aren’t far behind.
The tournament wraps up on Tuesday at Somersett. The first group tees off at 9:30 a.m.
