Beginning this week, drivers should anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes at the Pyramid Way and McCarran Boulevard intersection.
As part of the Pyramid/McCarran Intersection Improvement Project, crews will be removing a concrete median on McCarran Boulevard from Rock Boulevard to 4th Street. Traffic will be reduced to one-lane in each direction and congestion is likely during peak commute hours. This traffic configuration will be in place about a week. After the median is removed, all lanes will be re-opened, including for Memorial Day weekend.
After Memorial Day, lanes will be shifted on McCarran, but two lanes will be open in each direction. The configuration will remain through Fall 2016. This traffic configuration is necessary for the safety of workers as the team improves the south side of McCarran Boulevard and completes widening of the roadway.
In the near-term, lanes may also be reduced on Pyramid Way from Richards Way to Queen Way for installation of a barrier rail. Members of the public are encouraged to sign up for email updates about traffic controls at: http://pyramidmccarran.com. A hotline for the project has also been established: (775) 357-9107. Citizens may also email the project team using: info@pyramidmccarran.com.
This project, which is slated to be completed in spring 2018, will add a through lane in each direction to Pyramid Way. It will also add dedicated turning lanes on McCarran and Pyramid, an improved free-right for southbound traffic on Pyramid, a paved multi-use path, decorative walls and new landscaping. The project will enhance safety at this high crash location, contribute to improved air quality by reducing congestion and create better traffic flow.
Throughout the project, nearby businesses are open and accessible.
