SCIENCE, LLC announced that SNAFU Con, the Reno-Sparks area’s largest fan-run anime and gaming convention, will be held Oct. 7-9, at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks. The theme this year is, “Suits,” and covers any type of suit – formal, mechanical, space, fur. Any type of suit is welcomed, so long as attendees adhere to the dress codes, located on the convention’s website.
“No birthday suits, sorry,” said convention chair Nathan Sindar.
This will be the convention’s seventh year running and comes with a venue change, as well as a full line-up of guests, panels, and events for congoers of all ages. Attendees can expect the usual voice acting, musical, authorial, and academic guests; as well as panels, workshops, and contests.
SNAFU Con 2016 will feature hours of continuous programing (the convention runs nonstop from opening Friday morning to closing Sunday afternoon), including but not limited to a karaoke contest, a cosplay masquerade, an all-ages rave, and screenings of a variety of anime shows. There will also be various types of gaming for attendees to participate in – tabletop, console, computer, and cabinet. The convention hosts both an Artist’s Alley and a vendor’s room, open during the daylight hours.
Cost for the convention is $35 if you register online prior to Sept. 3, and $40 after, or at the door. There is also an option to purchase day passes at-con for $20. Additionally, rooms at the Nugget Casino Resort are available at a discounted rate for those attending the convention if pre-booked.
SNAFU Con will also be holding an open-to-the-public swap meet from 6 p.m. to midnight Thursday, Oct. 6 – “Day Zero”; registration to sell at the swap meet is open and available on the convention’s website. Other events, including open-mic karaoke, are planned for Day Zero, which requires no badge and is free to attend.
