The Sparks Police Department arrested two men after a traffic stop turned into a pursuit through the streets of Sparks on Monday afternoon.
At 12:32 p.m., a Sparks Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a gray 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe for not having license plates near Victorian and 22nd Street. The driver of that vehicle, later identified as Benjamin Hinote, immediately began to elude the officer turning north bound on El Rancho and traveling at a high rate of speed and in a reckless manner.
The officer then initiated a pursuit for the vehicle failing to yield. The officer observed Benjamin Hinote turn west into 501 El Rancho, which is a trailer park. As the officer made it to the entrance of 501 El Rancho, he observed Benjamin Hinote crash through a fence at the end of the trailer park and into two residential homes that were off of Maxine Circle.
Hinote then fled on foot and officers immediately set up a perimeter around the area to try and contain him. The original officer who initiated the pursuit observed another vehicle that appeared to be associated to Hinote as that it was following closely. The officer was able to give out that vehicle’s information, which was a silver 2007 Toyota Camry.
Officers then initiated a traffic stop on that vehicle in that area of El Rancho and Oddie. The vehicle was being driven by Boris Sharoyan. Sharoyan briefly stopped the vehicle while a passenger fled from the it running north bound across Oddie.
A foot pursuit ensued where that person was shortly thereafter taken into custody. That person was identified as Hinote. When Hinote bailed from the vehicle, Sharoyan drove away but was detained near El Rancho and Greenbrae.
It was determined that Sharoyan was assisting Hinote in trying to escape. Officers later received information that the vehicle Hinote was driving was stolen out of Reno. He also had three extraditable felony warrants that were related to a robbery and two burglaries.
Both were arrested and transported to the Washoe County Jail. Hinote was charged with Felony Eluding, Possession of a stolen vehicle, Felony property damage and his three warrants for a total bail amount $45,000. Sharoyan was held on a P&P hold and charged with obstructing.
