Spanish Springs went 2-1 in pool play on Friday in the High Sierra Invitational at Bishop Manogue.
The Cougars (11-1) beat Enterprise 25-15, 27-25 and Faith Lutheran 29-27, 18-25, 15-13 before dropping their first contest of the year in the pool title game to California power St. Francis, 25-21, 25-18.
Spanish Springs will continue the tournament on Saturday at Damonte Ranch Del Oro (8 a.m.), Douglas (11 a.m.) and Hilmar (noon).
Raiders split two, win forfeited match
Reed played its first games of the season on Friday in the High Sierra Invitational at Bishop Manogue, splitting two games and winning a forfeited contest.
The Raiders (2-1) lost to Granite Bay 25-12, 25-17 then turned around and beat Lowry 25-17, 18-25, 15-7. They were scheduled to play Ripon, which didn’t show, as well.
Reed will stay at Bishop Manogue on Saturday and play Truckee (9 a.m.), Elk Grove (10 a.m.) and Yerington (noon).
