The October 2016 Sparks video blog, “Spotlight on Sparks” provides a close-up view of redevelopment, progress and events at Sparks’ iconic city center, Victorian Square. New residential communities now stand where vacant lots once reigned over the scenery. The city is well on its way to achieving its vision to have residents live and work in downtown Sparks.
Retiring Sparks Councilwoman, Julia Ratti reflects on her 8-year tenure serving on the Sparks City Council and shares some of her accomplishments and perspectives as a local elected official. Also featured are the unique family activities and special events at the Sparks Marina. The City’s water turf reduction program, which will save the City 40,000 gallons of water per day, also provides an informative conservation segment.
Additionally, program segments include an update on the fundraising progress of the Nevada Veterans Memorial Bridge and Plaza in Sparks, and how citizens can become involved. The show highlights the economic impact of the Golden Eagle Regional Park & Sports Complex. More than 6 million people have visited the park since it opened in 2008. The program contains other fun segments highlighting City affairs to include a story on children at the Boy & Girls Club of the Truckee Meadows who provide their vision of Sparks in the year 2030.
The 28-minute program is produced by the City of Sparks and can be seen on YouTube as well as on the City’s government access channel, AT&T U-Verse channel 99 and Charter Communications channel 191. The City of Sparks also partners with the Reno CW network, which can be viewed on AT&T U-Verse channels 46 or 1046, Charter Communications channels 6 or 790, and DISH Network channels 46 or 9007.
