Sparks Councilwoman Julia Ratti was recently appointed by the Washoe County Commission to the State Senate representing District 13 for the 30th Special Session of the Nevada Legislature which begins Monday, October 10. Ratti was not seeking re-election to her Ward 1 Sparks City Council seat. She resigned as a member of the Sparks City Council effective Sunday, Oct. 9.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Sparks and represent Ward 1 for the past eight years,” said Councilwoman Ratti. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together.”
“On behalf of the citizens of the Sparks, I want to thank Julia Ratti for her eight years of dedicated service on the Sparks City Council,” said Sparks Mayor Geno Martini. “Julia has been a true champion for Sparks, and has been a strong advocate on issues impacting redevelopment, public safety, and environmental sustainability. She was a voice of reason during difficult decisions, and I am grateful for Julia’s leadership on many critical issues the City has faced and wish her luck as a Nevada State Senator during the special session and all her future endeavors. She will be missed.”
Martini continued, “Given the timing of general election, I will not need to make an appointment to the Ward 1 open seat as prescribed by the Sparks City Charter.”
