Before you settle in for a day of Thanksgiving feasting and football, head to the Scheels Turkey Trot for a large serving of healthy family fun. Scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Scheels and Sparks Marina, this annual running and walking event is a great way to burn calories and give back to the community.
Turkey Trot participants can choose from a 10K timed run or a 2 mile run/walk. The 10K begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 2 mile run/walk begins at 8:40 a.m. The courses are user-friendly for both runners and walkers. The start and finish line will be located in Scheels parking lot at Legends at Sparks Marina.
The cost to participate in Scheels Turkey Trot is $25 per person if registered by Nov. 17. The cost thereafter is $30 per person Nov. 18-20 (online only with 11 a.m. cutoff on Nov. 20), $40 at Scheels packet pick up/registration area (2nd floor) Nov. 21-23, and $60 on race day.
Every runner and walker will receive a long sleeve souvenir shirt and post-race refreshments. Those who wish to participate in the second annual Turkey Trot costume contest are encouraged to walk or race in garb that fits the Thanksgiving Day theme. Prizes will be awarded for the top three costumes.
A portion of proceeds from the event’s registration fees benefit Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful, and the City of Sparks Youth Scholarship Fund.
Register for Scheels Turkey Trot online at active.com or download an entry form at cityofsparks.us. Entry forms are also available at the Sparks Recreation Office, 98 Richards Way and at Scheels, 1200 Scheels Drive. Early registration is recommended to guarantee desired shirt size.
