The 2016-17 rankings open similarly to how the 2015-16 rankings ended.
Bishop Manogue has won two-straight regional titles and until the Miners are knocked from their perch, they are the team to beat.
To view how the rankings ended last year, click here.
1. Bishop Manogue Miners
Katie Turner is back. And the Miners are back at No. 1.
Turner was the best player in Northern Nevada as a junior. There’s no reason to believe that will change in her senior season.
2. Reno Huskies
The Huskies will be without last year’s two leading scorers, Mallory McGwire (now playing at Oregon) and Daranda Hinkey, but do bring back plenty of talent.
Reno is still the consensus favorite to win the High Desert League.
3. McQueen Lancers
McQueen is a proven commodity.
Like the Huskies, the Lancers graduated their two leading scorers, but bring back a strong core.
4. Reed Raiders
The Raiders are extremely talented. They’re also extremely young. Again.
That’s a combination that has a low floor, and a high ceiling.
If this group can mature, it has the potential to be on the last teams standing.
5. Douglas Tigers
Coach Werner Christian’s team found a way to get even younger this year.
The Tigers are coming off a season that saw them advance to the regional semifinals.
