New Plasma Center to Open in Sparks

January 11, 2017 By Sparks Tribune Leave a Comment

Grifols is pleased to announce the opening of its newest Biomat USA, Inc. plasma donor center on 662 East Prater Way, Sparks, NV. This state-of-the-art 15,000 square foot facility is Grifols second location in the Sparks/Reno area and the latest addition to its extensive plasma collection network. Grifols is a global healthcare company that produces life-saving plasma medicines for people with rare, chronic and life-threatening conditions.

Plasma donated at Grifols plasma donor centers is used to produce important medicines out of human plasma for people with rare and serious conditions, such as immune deficiencies, bleeding disorders, a rare neurological disorder, a genetic form of emphysema, and to treat shock, trauma, and burns. Grifols operates the largest network of plasma donor centers in the world that includes over 160 centers in the United States.

The new Sparks Biomat location was set to hold its grand opening on Monday, but was postponed due to the weather.

The new facility represents a nearly $3 million investment in Sparks by Grifols. The center houses new industry technologies including Donor Doc, a donor self-registration platform that helps improve donor screening efficiency. Over the next several years, the donor center plans to accommodate over 1,600 donors per week.

Grifols will ultimately contribute over $7.0 million each year to the local economy through payroll, donor fees and other operating expenses. Currently the center employs approximately 25 people from the local area, with expectations to increase to 50 to 60 employees as the center expands their operations. The majority of the positions are full-time employment, ranging from entry-level jobs for individuals with a high-school diploma seeking career opportunities in the healthcare field to medically-trained professionals.
