Reed not ready for Reno
Friday’s girls basketball game at Reno had all the markings of a memorable contest.
Reno, the perennial big dog of the High Desert League, hosted Reed, the former HDL powerhouse which was riding a 10-game winning streak. Both teams had only one regional defeat.
The game didn’t live up to the billing.
Reno’s press suffocated Reed (11-3, 6-2) all night as the Huskies (16-4, 7-1) rolled, 66-37.
The Huskies led 27-5 after the first quarter and reached the running clock threshold (35 points) just two minutes into the second quarter.
Dominque Harding scored eight consecutive points early in the second then a Kailiana Ramos bucket ballooned the gap to 40-5. It matched Reno’s largest lead of the night. The Huskies also led 59-24 early in the fourth.
After going down 40-5, Reed played its best basketball of the night. The Raiders went on a 13-0 run to get within 40-18. That was as good as it got for the Raiders.
Autumn Wadsworth and Serene Townsell-Williams both led the Raiders with nine points.
McKain Murdock led the Huskies with 15 points. Dominque Harding poured in 14 and Kaitlynn Biassou had 10.
Reed will look to get back in the win column Monday, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, in Stockton then returns to 4A North play Tuesday at McQueen.
