Galena, lightning too much for Spanish Springs
Lightning denied the Cougars the opportunity to remain unbeaten in 4A North play on Wednesday afternoon.
Spanish Springs trailed Galena 1-0 at home when a late summer storm made its presence felt at the half. Officials called the game for safety concerns, dropping the Cougs to 4-2-1, 2-1-1.
Galena improved to 6-1-0, 3-1-0.
A home game against Damonte Ranch awaits Spanish Springs on Saturday afternoon. First touch is at 12:30 p.m.
Raiders drop second straight
Reed made the long bus ride home from Minden on Wednesday evening with a 2-1 loss to Douglas.
Denilson Capailla scored the road team’s lone goal in the 50th minute.
The Raiders sunk to 3-3-1, 2-2-0 with their second straight loss. The Tigers (1-3-2, 1-2-1) picked up their first three points of the season.
Reed returns to its home field on Saturday afternoon (12:30 p.m.) to play Wooster.
Sparks-Truckee postponed
An anticipated 3A North heavyweight matchup between Sparks (4-2-0, 2-0-0) and Truckee (5-2-0, 2-0-0), at Truckee, on Wednesday night was postponed due to weather.
The Railroaders go to South Tahoe on Friday night, weather permitting.

Railroaders routed by Wolverines
Sparks was handled 8-0 at Truckee on Wednesday night.
The Railroaders dropped to 1-7-1, 0-2-1, while the Wolverines improved to 4-4-0, 3-0-0. They’ve outscored their three 3A North opponents 16-0.
“We could not get anything going,” Sparks coach Art Hurtado said.
Sparks will host South Tahoe on Friday night at 5 p.m.
