The following are highlights from Monday’s Sparks City Council meeting:
Proclamation
Sparks City Council proclaimed Oct. 18 as “Good Neighbor Day.” In honor of the day, Sparks Florist will give away 1500 dozen roses free. Recipients are asked to keep one rose for themselves and give the other 11 roses away to neighbors, co-workers and/or strangers as a gesture of neighborly goodwill.
General Business:
• Sparks City Council granted a nine-month extension for Syufy Enterprises to complete the renovation of the Galaxy Theater in Victorian Square and to install a direct entrance to the theater and the city-owned parking structure. Council also approved an amendment to the agreement between the city of Sparks and Syufy Enterprises to reduce the number of theatres from 14 to 13, as one auditorium will be used accommodate the alternate entrance.
• Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the city of Sparks to provide full-time inmate labor to augment Public Works maintenance for activities such as weed control in the city’s medians, roadside areas and city parks.
